Professor of Molecular and Cell Biology
Program Head, Cell and Developmental Biology
Dr. Goldhamer has been interested in developmental and regenerative biology since his graduate school days, where he studied limb regeneration in salamanders with Dr. Roy Tassava at The Ohio State University. His postdoctoral work with Dr. Charlie Emerson at the University of Virginia and Fox Chase Cancer Center focused on the genetic control of skeletal muscle determination in embryonic development, work that he has carried on in his own laboratories at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and at the University of Connecticut. His lab’s research has evolved and expanded over the years to include muscle regeneration and stem cell dysfunction in rare diseases of the musculoskeletal system. When not doing science, Dr. Goldhamer enjoys spending time with his family, hiking with his dogs, and fermenting just about anything.
